Hello I want to forward this to you to share with other... a conversation with a person nextdoor to the US... His name is Robert Campbell … http://calguy1000.com/
<jeremyBass> are you happy with your health system?<calguy1000> socialized health care means more taxes... that's a fact... but yes, I believe that the country benefits from socialized health care in greater productivity, so it's a net benefit.

<jeremyBass> are you happy with your health system?
<calguy1000> mmm, well in principle it works, but it's chewing up about 30+% of government revenues, and is extremely bloated.
<calguy1000> it's a complex issue.
<jeremyBass> ok... do you feel it's the better way but need some fixing?
<calguy1000> socialized health care means more taxes... that's a fact... but yes, I believe that the country benefits from socialized health care in greater productivity, so it's a net benefit.
<jeremyBass> that's what I thought you'd feel...
<jeremyBass> may-be it's time for me to move lol
<jeremyBass> thanks for the responses there
<calguy1000> I saw some stats from before we did socialized health care that were all about 'per capita GDP'... and they are definately better now than they were then, wether it was just socialized health care that did it, I dunno, but I think it was a major player, as the net health of the public improved.
<calguy1000> greater GDP means more jobs, more money in your pocket as things go.... but we pay for that with higher taxes.
<jeremyBass> that's good to know... may I put this conversation in a letter I've been writing?
<calguy1000> sure, but it's just speculation on my part, I don't recall where i saw those stats.
<jeremyBass> well.. I'm interested in your feeling of your system :D
<jeremyBass> you seem happy with it... yes?
<calguy1000> I've been going through some medical crap for the last couple of years, and without the 'free' healthcare, I'd be screwed... all I have to pay for now is my medications, and maybe specialized food, etc.
<jeremyBass> you like my son... dead with out it... we have a great system for children...
<jeremyBass> this is great info
<jeremyBass> :D
<calguy1000> but our free healthcare doesn't cover everything, of course
<calguy1000> just 'medically necessary' stuff..
<jeremyBass> well that would be expected...
<jeremyBass> I don't want other to pay for a nose job lol
<jeremyBass> cool well I'm going to get back to my letter... thank you for taken the time here... :D
<calguy1000> yeah, there are problems with socialized health care too.... the system gets bloated (government workers you know)... and slow,
<jeremyBass> slow.. ?
<calguy1000> yeah, like there are waiting lines for tests like MRI's and cat-scans... sometimes as much as 3 to 6 months.
<calguy1000> a 12 hour wait in an emergency room before you see a doctor.... that's largely because there aren't enough private doctors
<calguy1000> er 'personal' doctors... so alot of people are going to the emergency room for stuff they would normally go to their family doctor for.
<jeremyBass> hmm... so those to items seem like a fixable thing.. more doctors and equipment
<calguy1000> there aren't enough family doctors for a few reasons, but one of the big ones is that a large percentage of them go to the states where they can make more money
<jeremyBass> lol American greed .. got to hate it
<calguy1000> so 'socialized medicine' has it's drawbacks...
<jeremyBass> but you would trade it?
<jeremyBass> wouldn't*
<calguy1000> no, I think it's fixable, but it'll never be perfect, cuz you don't want too much 'extra capacity' in the system, that's just waste... our biggest problem is the politicians are afraid to make the big steps that may be necessary to improve the system.
<jeremyBass> cool, well I'll let you be... this has been great... thanks for the help here :D
<calguy1000> it's a big issue up here, particularly around budget and election times.
<jeremyBass> well I bet lol
<jeremyBass> but sounds better then what we have
<jeremyBass> lol
<calguy1000> I still don't fully understand the american system.
<calguy1000> sounds like alot of various systems all pieced together.
<jeremyBass> if you don't pay you die... that is how they told it to me on my son
<jeremyBass> pay or die is the best I can think of... that is sad...
<calguy1000> here if you're sick they'll help you... you may lose your home, go bankrupt, etc... but you'll get hospital space if you need it.
<calguy1000> yeah.
<jeremyBass> you can lose you home here?
<calguy1000> we're getting better though, if there is no room in a hospital in calgary, they'll book you in at another hospital
<calguy1000> well, if you're sick, and you can't work...
<jeremyBass> oh and don't pay your taxes
<calguy1000> yep.
<calguy1000> that's my boat.
<jeremyBass> I guess I mean the gov won't take it because of med bills right?
<calguy1000> right.
<calguy1000> but they will take it for not paying taxes.
<calguy1000> cuz your sick
<calguy1000> there are some programs to help with that though, the govt. just doesn't advertise that.
<jeremyBass> well that is easyer to fix then millions in med bils
<calguy1000> yeah, our medical bills never get that stupid... a few thousand for 'optional procedures' maybe.
<jeremyBass> lol.. sounds good to me... well I going to head kid is needing me... thank you
